Man, 36, Seriously Injured in Merced County Crash on Highway 165 Near River
MERCED COUNTY, CA (June 6, 2023) – A man was seriously injured after a crash on Highway 165 near River Road in Merced County.
According to an article published by The Merced County Star, the accident took place last week on Friday night. Officers reported the wreck on June 2 at around 9 p.m.
The incident happened when a Jeep Wrangler was going south on Highway 165 near River Road in Merced County. At the same time, a tow truck towing a big rig combination was traveling north.
For an unknown reason, the trailer from the tow truck drifted into the southbound lane as its driver negotiated a curve in the roadway. In the process, the trailer collided with the Jeep.
Tow Truck and Car Collide
The California Highway Patrol said the two crashed just north of River Road and south of Hilmar. The 36-year-old Norwood, Colorado man driving the Jeep sustained serious injuries as a result of the collision.
Paramedics rushed him to the Doctors Medical Center in Modesto for treatment. The report did not disclose the name of the wounded victim and his condition at this time.
The operator of the tow truck, 53-year-old Firebaugh resident Martin Sanchez Montes, stopped and stayed at the site following the wreck.
Officers forced the southbound lanes of Highway 165 to shut down near River after the collision. The cause of the Merced County crash is still under investigation.
