2 Killed, 5 Injured in Merced County Crash on State Route 165
MECED COUNTY, CA (May 8, 2021) – A car crash killed two people and injured several others on State Route 165 in Merced County.
According to an article published by The Fresno Bee, the tragic accident occurred on Saturday morning. Officers reported the wreck at about 11:05 a.m. in Hilmar.
The incident began when a 2006 Kia Rio was going north on State Route 165 in Merced County. At the same time, a 2016 Chevy Silverado was traveling south.
The 42-year-old Stevinson woman driving the Kia tried to make a right turn but in the process overcorrected to the left. She then collided head-on with the Chevy, south of Westside Boulevard.

The California Highway Patrol said the woman and her passenger, a 9-year old girl, ended up ejected from their car. Firefighters along with the paramedics pronounced them dead at the scene.
The driver of the pickup, a 32-year-old Modesto man, and a 30-year old woman and three children ages 5, 10 and 11, riding with him sustained minor injuries. They were all wearing their seat belts at the time.
Medical personnel soon took them to a Modesto-area hospital for treatment. The names of the deceased and wounded parties have not been yet released.
Meanwhile, CHP forced State Route 165 to shut down for about three hours following the wreck. The cause of the fatal Merced County crash is still under investigation.
