Two Truck Rear-Ends Car on Highway 165
Merced County, CA (December 5, 2022) – One person died following a traffic collision that occurred in the area of Highway 165 and American Avenue, the ABC30 News reported.
Officials said a 28-year-old man was behind the wheel of the passenger vehicle traveling on the highway in Merced County Monday afternoon. When the car approached the intersection at American Avenue, the driver slowed down in preparation for making a left turn.
Our sources indicated the driver of a tow truck traveling behind the car did not notice the slowing traffic. According to the article published online, the tow truck slammed into the back of the passenger vehicle. The force from the impact caused the car to careen into the opposite lane; where it collided with a big rig.
Man Dies at Hospital After Multi-Vehicle Collision in Merced County
Shortly after 5:45 p.m., rescue teams arrived at the crash site and found the driver of the smaller vehicle suffering in serious injuries. Responding paramedics rendered first aid to the victim, then rushed him to a local hospital. Despite life-saving efforts performed by medical personnel, the patient sadly succumbed to his injuries and died at the hospital. The identity of the deceased remained undisclosed pending confirmation and notification of next of kin.
Meanwhile, the driver of the tow truck and big rig both appeared unharmed after the catastrophic incident.
Investigators continue to work at this time to determine the precise cause of the fatal crash that happened at Highway 165 and American Avenue in Merced County.
