Deadly Crash at Merced County Intersection
MERCED COUNTY, Calif. (Oct. 5, 2021) — A fatal Merced County crash early Tuesday morning happened at Westside Boulevard and Sultana Drive.
UPDATED: The coroner identified Meliton Gutierrez, 19, of Atwater, as the person who died in the Merced County crash.
The 4 a.m. collision claimed the life of one person and sent another to the hospital. It took place at the Merced County intersection, just south of Livingston, according to a report by the California Highway Patrol.
Additionally, police are investigating the cause of the fatal crash in Merced County.
CHP officials reported a vehicle crashed into an orchard and overturned.
Firefighters report one person inside the vehicle died at the scene. Meanwhile, a second occupant of the vehicle was transported by ambulance to a local hospital in undisclosed condition.
Finally, investigators are working to determine the circumstances leading up to the deadly Merced County crash.
The coroner will release the identity of the person who died after notifying next of kin.
