3 Killed in Merced County Crash on Santa Fe Drive Near Franklin Road
MERCED COUNTY, CA (August 7, 2022) – A head-on crash killed several people on Santa Fe Drive in Merced County.
According to The Merced Sun Star and ABC 30 News, the tragic accident took place on Sunday morning. Officers reported the wreck at about 5:55 a.m.
The incident happened when a Jeep Patriot was going west on Santa Fe Drive near Franklin Road in Merced County. At the same time, a 2017 Nissan Rogue was traveling east.
2 Cars Collide
For an unknown reason, the Jeep crossed into the oncoming lane. The California Highway Patrol said in the process, the Patriot slammed head-on into the Nissan.
Both cars obtained major damage due to the impact of the collision. Paramedics arrived and pronounced the 38-year-old Turlock resident driving the Rogue dead at the scene.
The driver of the Jeep, a 34-year-old Merced man, and his passenger, a 34-year-old woman, also died at the site. The names of the deceased parties have not been yet released.
Meanwhile, CHP forced a stretch of Santa Fe Drive to shut down for hours following the wreck. The cause of the fatal Merced County crash is still under investigation.
