Motorcyclist Killed in Accident at Santa Fe Drive and Avenue 2
MERCED COUNTY (September 20, 2019) – A motorcyclist was killed after a traffic collision in the area of Santa Fe Drive and Avenue 2 Friday afternoon.
According to reports by the Merced Sun Star and ABC 30 News, the fatal accident took place just before 2:30 p.m. near Atwater and Merced.
The incident began when a 30-year-old Winton man was riding a 2016 Harley Davidson motorcycle east on Santa Fe Drive approaching the Avenue 2 intersection.
California Highway Patrol said at the same time a 2001 Nissan Altima turned left from Avenue 2 after stopping at the stop sign.
Motorcycle and Car Accident in Merced County Friday, September 20
The driver of the Nissan, 61-year-old Winton resident Debra Ann Lay, allegedly failed to yield and went into the path of the motorcycle. The two ultimately collided.
The rider was ejected from his bike as a result of the crash. Paramedics responded to the site and pronounced the man dead at the scene.
His name has not been yet released pending notification of next of kin. Meanwhile, CHP affirmed that Lay stopped following the wreck and cooperated with the authorities. The investigation is ongoing.
