Man, 43, Killed in Merced Hit-and-Run Near Childs Avenue and Watertown Drive
MERCED, CA (August 18, 2021) – A pedestrian was killed after a hit-and-run crash near Childs Avenue and Watertown Drive in Merced.
According to an article published by The Merced Sun Star, the tragic accident took place early Monday. Officers reported the collision shortly before 1 a.m.
The incident happened on August 16 when a 2004 Mercedes was going east on East Childs Avenue, approaching Watertown Drive. At the same time, a male pedestrian was walking in the street.
Merced police said the car then struck the 43-year-old man for an unknown reason near the intersection. Firefighters along with the paramedics soon arrived and found him left lying on the ground.

He sustained life-threatening injuries as a result of the collision. Medical personnel pronounced the victim dead at the scene. His name remains unreleased pending notification of next of kin.
Meanwhile, police affirmed that the 22-year-old man driving the Mercedes did not stop to render aid to the pedestrian and fled the area. He later returned to the crash site and cooperated with the authorities.
Authorities arrested the motorist on suspicion of felony hit-and-run, and soon cited and released. Officers forced Childs Avenue and Watertown Drive to shut down for hours following the collision.
