MERCED (September 26, 2017) – A motorcyclist was seriously injured in a traffic collision on Highway 59 Monday afternoon, according to Merced Sun Star.
The accident took place at about 4:12 p.m. near Canton Road. Highway 59 is also known as Los Banos Highway.
As per the article, California Highway Patrol said the crash occurred when a 43-year-old man was riding a 2009 Yamaha motorcycle behind a 2006 white Dodge Ram that was traveling north on Highway 59.
The driver of the Dodge, 43-year-old Aureliano Barajas-Valencia, reportedly stepped on the brake and veered to the right as the traffic began to slow.
The motorcyclist failed to slow down in time and collided with the rear of the car.

CHP affirmed that the rider was transported to a regional hospital with injuries described as major. His name and condition at this time remained unknown.
Meanwhile, Barajas-Valencia told the Sun-Star that the vehicle in front of him stopped abruptly, causing him to brake and swerve in an attempt to avoid hitting it. The incident is still under investigation.
Factors such as driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, speed, distracted driving or negligence often cause traffic incidents. These auto accidents usually results in serious injuries, or worse death. It is then necessary that motorists practice certain precautionary measures and follow traffic laws while traversing the major roads, such as the highways, as they are considered as one of the most dangerous routes in the state.
In this case, authorities are still gathering more information and evidence to determine liability. If the investigation proves that a negligent party has disregarded the safety of others and has led to the injury of another individual, the victim may have the right to pursue a personal injury lawsuit seeking compensation for all the hospital bills, future medical needs, lost wages, property damage and other losses.
