Woman Seriously Injured in Merced Hit-and-Run on 16th Street Near Highway 99
MERCED, CA (July 22, 2021) – A pedestrian was seriously injured after a hit-and-run crash on 16th Street and Highway 99 in Merced.
According to The Merced Sun Star and Merced GW News, the accident took place on Thursday morning. Officers reported the collision at about 5:45 a.m.
The incident happened when a female pedestrian was walking on the East 16th Street off-ramp from northbound Highway 99 in Merced. At the same time, a vehicle was going north on the off-ramp.
The California Highway Patrol said for an unknown reason, the driver then hit the woman. Firefighters along with the paramedics arrived at the scene and found her lying face up in the roadway.

The victim sustained major injuries as a result of the collision. An air ambulance took her to the Doctors Medical Center in Modesto for treatment.
Officials did not disclose the name of the patient and her condition at this time. Meanwhile, CHP affirmed that the motorist did not stop to render aid to the woman and soon fled northbound.
Officers forced the 16th Street off-ramp near Highway 99 to close following the accident. The Merced hit-and-run crash is still under investigation.
