Officer Jose Cruz Injured in Merced Crash at 21st and I Streets
MERCED (April 29, 2018) – A police officer was injured after a traffic collision in the area of West 21st and I streets on Friday, April 27, according to Merced Sun Star.
The accident involving two vehicles took place at around 10:33 a.m.
As per the article, Merced police said Officer Jose Cruz was driving a Ford Explorer east on 21st Street when he was hit by a white Chevrolet Tracker in the intersection.

Witnesses told police that the driver of the Chevrolet, 56-year-old Deborah Weigelt, apparently ran through the stop sign and struck driver’s side of the patrol car. The Merced woman was going south on I Street prior to impact.
The Explorer went up onto the curb and ultimately slammed into a Neighborhood Watch sign. Airbags deployed in the police unit and Officer Cruz was transported to an area hospital with injuries described as minor.
A police dog was inside the Ford at the time was also taken to a veterinarian for evaluation as a precaution. Authorities are still investigating the incident.
