Maribel Gonzalez and Unborn Child Killed by Hit-and-Run Driver
SAN BERNARDINO (July 12, 2018) – The alleged hit-and-run driver who killed a pregnant woman in the area of Highland Avenue and Medical Center Drive has been arrested.
The suspect, 31-year-old Mercedes Vanesa Guevara, was booked into jail on Monday on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter.
According to The Sun and KTLA, police said Guevara was believed to be driving a Dodge Charger which struck Maribel Gonzalez on West Highland Avenue at North Medical Center Drive.
Guevara allegedly ran a red light and hit Gonzalez who was in a marked crosswalk and had the green light at the time. She was reportedly propelled about 150 feet down the street.
Hit-and-Run Accident at Highland Avenue and Central Drive
Police affirmed that Gonzalez and her unborn child died at the scene. The collision took place on July 11 at approximately 11:40 p.m.
Meanwhile, Guevara continued driving until she lost control of her car and ultimately crashed. She reportedly abandoned the Dodge and fled in another vehicle.
