Santa Paula Man, 64, Arrested after Deadly Hit-and-run Bicycle Collision

 Michael Harris Arrested Merced Bicycle Hit-and-run Crash Utah Street, Bellevue Road MERCED, CA (July 12, 2021) – Michael Harris, 64, of Santa Paula, was arrested on hit-and-run charges following the death of a 22-year-old Brian Chuc, riding a bicycle in Merced County.

The California Highway Patrol believes the driver struck a bicyclist just before 8 p.m. on Monday, July 12th on Utah Street and Bellevue Road, near El Capitan High School.

The suspect failed to stop and help the victim following the collision. The grey Honda fled southbound on Utah Street, police said. Meanwhile, the injured bicyclist died at the scene of the collision. The victim’s name was released by the Merced County Sheriff Coroner.

Police were able to locate the suspect and book him into the Merced County Jail. Michael Harris is charged with manslaughter and hit-and-run causing death.

Investigators did not mention why the suspect fled the scene.

Police officers closed down Bellevue Road between Utah and Highway 59 after the collision. It’s unknown what led up to the deadly hit-and-run crash.
