Michael Jodoin, 59, Killed in Grass Valley DUI Hit-and-Run Crash on McCourtney Road
GRASS VALLEY (August 3, 2020) – A Waste Management employee died after an alleged DUI hit-and-run collision outside a fairground Monday morning.
The Nevada County Sheriff’s Department identified the deceased victim as 59-year-old Michael Jodoin, a resident of Rough and Ready.
California Highway Patrol said a black 2020 Dodge Charger driving erratically swerved onto the shoulder of McCourtney Road and struck Jodoin outside the Nevada County Fairgrounds.
The Union and CBS Sacramento reported that Jodoin was cleaning up the roadway when the incident occurred at about 8:43 a.m.
Waste Management Employee Hit by DUI Driver Near Fairground
Paramedics responded and found the worker left lying on the ground, just past Gate 4 of the fairgrounds. Medical personnel rushed him to Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
Meanwhile, the female driver of the Dodge did not stop to render aid and fled the scene. Officers later located her three miles away and determined she was under the influence of a controlled substance at the time.
Authorities ultimately arrested the woman on charges of felony DUI causing great bodily injury, felony hit-and-run causing death or injury, and gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated.
The suspect’s bail was set at $100,000. The tragic incident remains under investigation.
