Michael Klassen, 67, Seriously Injured in Shandon Head-On Crash Highway 46
SHANDON (August 28, 2019) – A driver was seriously injured after a traffic collision along Highway 46 near the Cholame Y Wednesday morning.
The Caliofrnia Highway Patrol identified the victim as 67-year-old Michael Klassen, a resident of Pebble Beach.
According to reports by The Fresno Bee and KEYT News, Klassen was driving a Toyota Sienna east on Highway 46 when he was struck head-on by an Acura.
The incident began when the Acura driven by 29-year-old Joey McGraw Jr. was traveling west on Highway 46. The San Bernardino man tried to pass a tractor-trailer truck but went back to his lane.

In the process, McGraw lost control of his car due to his unsafe speed. He veered into the eastbound lane and collided with the Toyota which went over the south side of the highway upon impact.
CHP affirmed that both Klassen and McGraw were transported to Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center in San Luis Obispo with possible fractures.
The accident took place just before 7:30 a.m., west of Antelope Road and east of the Cholame Y intersection. Authorities are still investigating the cause of the incident.
