3 Hurt in Chain-reaction Crash on Hwy 53
LOWER LAKE, Calif. (Jan. 3, 2019) — Michael Koroma, 58, of Ukiah suffered major injuries Thursday afternoon in a multi-vehicle crash that sent three to the hospital on Highway 53, near Anderson Marsh State Historic Park, a California Highway Patrol report said.
The crash was reported at 12:54 p.m. between four motorists. The CHP report stated it was a chain-reaction crash with several motorists rear-ending one another and one person was down out of a vehicle in the roadway.
Koroma was rushed to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital after being hit by an oncoming car. He reportedly stopped his 2006 Mitsubishi Montero SUV and got out of it on Highway 53, causing three other northbound motorists to crash trying to avoid his vehicle.
Kayla Farr, 24, of Hidden Valley Lake, had to slam on her brakes to avoid hitting the Mitsubishi, but her 2012 Ford Fusion rear-ended by another driver and she was pushed her car into Koroma who was outside of his vehicle. Next, a fourth motorist crashed into the car that rear-ended Farr.
Koroma suffered the worst injuries, but Far and driver, Charleen Long, 33, of Lower Lake, had minor injuries. Driver Tricia Snider, 48, of Hidden Valley Lake, did not report any injuries.
Police closed down all southbound lanes of Highway 53 and left one lane heading northbound open to traffic.
Three tow trucks removed vehicles damaged in the crash from the scene.
Police are heading up an investigation into what happened and liability for the crash.
Those of us at Johnson Attorneys Group offer our prayers to all those hurt.
