Michael Lieberknecht Arrested on DUI; Hit-and-run Charges
SACRAMENTO, Calif. (Jan. 4, 2019) —Michael Lieberknecht, 56, was arrested on suspicion of DUI after a series of hit-and-run collisions on New Year’s Eve that took place on Jackson Road, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The Sacramento man is accused of colliding with a motorcyclist and two other vehicles before it went off the road and overturned in a solo collision. About 10 p.m., his 2013 Hyundai was driving eastbound on Jackson Road when it struck a Harley Davidson motorcycle near the Country Store. Lieberknecht fled the scene in an eastbound direction on the westbound side of Jackson Road where he crashed into a 2005 Honda Civic. Following that collision, Lieberknecht allegedly kept driving eastbound on Jackson Road and eventually passed the scene where another driver had struck two deer earlier at 8:50 p.m. between the North Gate and the highway bridge. A tow truck driver who was on the scene to remove the vehicle, saw Lieberknecht’s vehicle drive past and drive off the roadway where it overturned up against the Country Club’s fence.
Lieberknecht suffered major injuries in the collision and was taken by ambulance to Kaiser Permanente South Sacramento Medical Center. Paramedics also took the injured motorcyclist there to be treated for minor injuries. The driver of the Honda was not injured.
