Man Killed in Ontario Pedestrian Accident on I-10 Freeway
ONTARIO, Calif. (Dec. 1, 2020) — Michael Mejia Sr., 59, of Gardena, was run over by a semi-truck and killed early Tuesday on the westbound Interstate 10 Freeway in Ontario.
The fatal collision was reported at 5:17 a.m. near the Etiwanda Avenue on ramp to the freeway, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The Ontario Fire Department sent paramedics to the crash scene, but sadly the man died due to major injuries. The truck driver told authorities he couldn’t stop his truck when the pedestrian reportedly ran out into traffic lanes. The CHP report did not state whether or not there were any witnesses to the collision.
Meanwhile, it’s unknown why the Michael Mejia Sr. was on the freeway. The man was seen walking on the right shoulder between the fog line prior to the collision.
The Riverside County Sheriff Coroner released the name of the man who died later the same day.
Finally, police closed down the No. 4 lane of the westbound 10 Freeway for the investigation.
