Michael Strausbaugh, 65, Killed in Cottonwood Hit-and-Run on Gas Point Road
COTTONWOOD, CA (May 28, 2021) – Michael Strausbaugh was killed after hit-and-run crash on Gas Point Road in Cottonwood.
The Shasta County Coroner’s Office identified the 65-year-old Anderson man as the victim of the fatal accident on Tuesday.
The incident happened on May 25 when Michael Don Strausbaugh was riding a bicycle on Gas Point Road in Cottonwood. He was cycling just east of Happy Valley Road at the time.
The California Highway Patrol said a 1998 red Dodge Ram struck the bicyclist for an unknown reason. KRCRTV News and Record Searchlight wrote that the collision occurred shortly after 11 a.m.
Victoria McDaniel, 27, Arrested
Firefighters along with the paramedics arrived and then found Michael Strausbaugh left lying on the side of the roadway as a result of the crash.
Medical personnel pronounced him dead at the scene. Meanwhile, CHP affirmed that the female driver of the pickup truck did not stop to render aid to the cyclist and fled the area.
The Dodge Ram sustained front-end damage after hitting the rider. Authorities located and arrested the woman on Wednesday for felony hit-and-run and misdemeanor manslaughter.
They soon booked the motorist, 27-year-old Cottonwood resident Victoria M. McDaniel, into the Shasta County Jail. The fatal Cottonwood hit-and-run collision is still under investigation.
