Michael Tesfai, 27, Kills Bicyclist in Ladera Heights DUI Crash

LADERA HEIGHTS, CA (September 19, 2021) – Authorities detained Michael Tesfai after a DUI crash that killed a bicyclist in Ladera Heights.

The California Highway Patrol determined that the 27-year-old Culver City man was under the influence when the collision occurred on Saturday.

The incident began when Michael Tesfai was driving a 2019 Toyota Camry in the No. 2 lane of Centinela Avenue in Ladera Heights.

At the same time, a 71-year-old man was riding a Cannondale bicycle south on Alvern Street. CHP said the bicyclist then turned right onto westbound Centinela.

In the process, Michael Tesfai hit the elderly victim in the Ladera Heights intersection. Firefighters along with the paramedics soon arrived and found the cyclist down on the ground.

Medical personnel pronounced the bicycle rider dead at the scene. My News LA wrote that the accident took place on September 18 at about 4:40 a.m.

Meanwhile, CHP arrested and booked Michael Tesfai at the Los Angeles County Jail for suspicion of DUI. Officials treated him for the abrasions to his eyes before taking him into custody.

The Ladera Heights DUI crash is still under investigation.
