Motorcyclist Michael Thomas, 40, Killed in Newark Crash on Highway 84
NEWARK, CA (September 15, 2020) – A motorcyclist killed after an alleged DUI collision along Highway 84 early Sunday has been identified.
The Alameda County Coroner’s Office said 40-year-old Michael D. Thomas, a resident of Palo Alto, died following the wreck on September 13.
California Highway Patrol reported that Thomas and another person were riding a motorcycle when a BMW sedan struck them from behind on eastbound Highway 84 near Thornton Avenue.

East Bay Times wrote that paramedics pronounced Thomas dead at the scene. The fatal crash occurred at around 2:20 a.m., just east of the Dumbarton Bridge toll plaza.
Medical personnel transported the other rider to a hospital with unspecified injuries. The name and condition of the wounded victim were not disclosed.
Meanwhile, CHP determined that the male driver of the BMW was under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs at the time of the accident.
Authorities ultimately arrested the motorist on suspicion of DUI. The tragic incident remains under investigation.
