Hit-and-run Driver, 42, Arrested Nearby; Bicyclist Killed
ALISO VIEJO, Calif. (Jan. 30, 2019) – Police are questioning Rogelio Martinez Cuin, 38, of Lake Forest as he is suspected of hitting and killing a bicyclist Wednesday morning in a hit-and-run collision in Aliso Viejo, the Orange County sheriff’s department reported.
The victim, identified as Michael David Tomlinson, 51, of Aliso Viejo, was reportedly riding a bicycle on Westridge Drive and was crossing Woods Canyon Drive when he was struck by the suspect’s Volvo.
The crash took place about 6:40 a.m. on Jan. 30th, the Orange County Sheriff’s Department said. Meanwhile, as the bicyclist died at the scene, the driver kept driving without stopping to help the victim or call for help.
Witnesses gave sheriff’s deputies a description of the vehicle and just a short time later police found it about a mile from the crash scene.
The suspected driver of that vehicle was arrested a short distance from the Volvo, police said.
The victim’s name was withheld pending family notification.
