INDIO, California (April 16, 2016) – An 18-year-old woman was fatally struck Friday night near the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, according to The Desert Sun. (map)
Riverside County Coroner’s Office identified the victim as Michala Freeland, of Highland.
As per the article, police said Freeland was crossing Avenue 52, east of Monroe Street, when she was hit by a Jeep Grand Cherokee that was going east around 8:13 p.m.
The 18-year-old was immediately transported to Eisenhower Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead.
Meanwhile, the driver involved, an Indio man, remained at the scene and cooperated with the authorities. The motorist and an infant in the car were unharmed.
Alcohol and drugs did not appear to have played a role in the incident which remains under investigation.
