
Woman Identified as Victim of Car Accident
FRESNO, Calif. (Feb. 27, 2024) – Michelle Cruz, 53, died in a bicycle accident on Polk Avenue involving a suspected DUI driver Monday night in Fresno.
The deadly crash occurred just after 10 p.m. on Feb. 26th, according to the Fresno Police Department.
Police and paramedics responded to the intersection and located the female bicyclist with major injuries in the roadway, Your Central Valley News reports.
Despite efforts to save her life, the woman died at the crash scene. Authorities reported the woman was homeless at the time of her death.
Investigators determined Michelle Cruz was riding her bicycle northbound on Polk Avenue. Witnesses told authorities she allegedly made a sudden left turn into the path of a small SUV. The driver of the SUV was unable to avoid hitting her, police said.
Meanwhile, detectives questioned the driver at the crash scene and subsequently arrested the motorist on suspicion of driving under the influence. The driver, Jennifer Fleishman, 31, was cited and released.
The investigation into the fatal bicycle accident on Polk Avenue continues. There is a GoFundMe page raising money for her funeral costs.
