Midori Groom Killed in Rollover Crash on State Route 60 in Jurupa Valley

Hemet Woman, 41, Killed; Passenger Injured in Crash on State Route 60
JURUPA VALLEY, Calif. (July 17, 2026) — Midori Groom, a 41-year-old Hemet resident, was killed on Thursday last week after the SUV she was driving left State Route 60, struck a tree, and overturned multiple times, authorities said.
The fatal crash occurred at approximately 10:04 p.m. on July 9 along westbound SR-60, just east of Etiwanda Avenue, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Investigators said Groom was driving a black Lexus RX350 westbound when the SUV rapidly approached the rear of a semi-truck traveling ahead in the No. 4 lane. CHP officials believe the driver made a sudden evasive move to the right to avoid a collision, causing the Lexus to lose control.
The SUV crossed the right shoulder, crashed into a tree, then rolled several times. The vehicle continued through an electric fence and a wrought-iron fence before coming to rest on its roof in the rear lot of a nearby commercial property.
Firefighters pronounced Groom dead at the scene. Meanwhile, a passenger riding in the front seat sustained moderate injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
Investigators said there is no indication that alcohol or drugs contributed to the collision.
The California Highway Patrol is continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.
