2 Killed, 3 Injured in Midway District Crash at Rosecrans and Sports Arena
SAN DIEGO, CA (May 7, 2022) – A crash killed two people and injured several others at Rosecrans Street and Sports Arena Boulevard in the Midway District.
According to the San Diego Union-Tribune and FOX 5 News, the tragic accident took place on Saturday night. Officers reported the wreck shortly after 9 p.m.
The incident happened when a 2015 Toyota Sienna was going north on Rosecrans Street, approaching Sports Arena Boulevard, in the Midway District.
At the same time, a 1999 Toyota Tacoma was traveling at a high rate of speed west on Sports Arena. San Diego police said the Tacoma then slammed into a center median and went airborne.
Car Lands on Minivan
The car landed on top of the minivan. Firefighters soon arrived and pronounced a man and a woman riding the Sienna dead at the scene.
Paramedics took the other two occupants of the van for treatment of unknown injuries. The 31-year-old man driving the Tacoma survived with broken bones and multiple other injuries.
Medical personnel rushed the speeding driver to the hospital for further aid. The names of the deceased and wounded parties have not been yet released.
Meanwhile, police forced the area of Rosecrans and Sports Arena to shut down for hours following the wreck. The fatal Midway District crash is still under investigation.
