Driver Killed; Ice Cream Truck Driver, 61, Injured in Duarte Crash
DUARTE, Calif. (July 22, 2020) – Miguel Colon Gonzalez, 29, died Saturday night in a collision with an ice cream truck on Shamrock Avenue.
The collision was reported around 6:12 p.m., according to an article published by San Gabriel Valley Tribune.
Miguel Gonzalez was allegedly driving southbound at a reckless speed in a Honda Civic on Shamrock Avenue from Hurstview Avenue. Meanwhile, a 61-year-old man driving a 1988 Chevy-model ice cream truck was heading northbound at 10 mph.
The California Highway Patrol reported that the Honda then collided with the ice cream truck and wound up underneath it in front of 1928 Shamrock Avenue.
Los Angeles County Fire Department officials along with the paramedics responded and extricated Gonzalez from his vehicle. Unfortunately, Gonzalez, who was identified by the Los Angeles Coroner, died of his injuries at the scene.
The Montebello man driving the ice cream truck was injured and taken to a local hospital.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
