Several Injured in Head-On Crash at Boronda Road and Constitution Boulevard
SALINAS (October 29, 2018) – Several were injured after an alleged DUI crash in the area of East Boronda Road and Constitution Boulevard early Monday, according to KSBW and KION News.
The accident involving two vehicles took place just after midnight.
As per the reports, police said 22-year-old Miguel Angel Diaz was driving a Ford F-150 when he allegedly drifted into the lane where a Honda Odyssey was traveling. The two cars collided head-on at the intersection of Boronda Road and Constitution Boulevard.
The pickup truck then caught fire upon impact. Fire department officials along with the paramedics responded to the scene and rescued the people who were found pinned inside the burning car.
Suspects ID’d as Miguel Diaz, Arsenio Diaz-Garcia
A woman from the Ford, who was seen drifting in and out of consciousness, was transported to Natividad Medical Center with moderate injuries. All the occupants of the Odyssey were taken to the Natividad and Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital injuries ranging from minor to moderate degree.
Police affirmed that one of the victims, a 13-year-old girl, was airlifted to Valley Medical Center with a broken femur while a 15-year-old patient was also one of those who were hospitalized.
A Good Samaritan suffered minor cuts to his arms while helping the parties involved. The names and condition of all the wounded parties were not released.
Meanwhile, officials determined that Diaz was intoxicated at the time and arrested him on suspicion of driving under the influence.
The driver of the Odyssey, 43-year-old Arsenio Diaz-Garcia, was also arrested on suspicion of DUI but was cited and released at the hospital.
