Fatal Pedestrian Accident at Mission and Broadway in Escondido
ESCONDIDO, Calif. (Sept. 20, 2024) — Miguel Leonides Garcia Gonzalez, 58, of Escondido, died Tuesday in a pedestrian accident on East Mission Avenue at North Broadway in Escondido.
The deadly crash occurred at 6:09 a.m. on Sept. 17th, according to the Escondido Police Dept.
The Escondido man was walking across East Mission Avenue. Meanwhile, a driver in a Toyota SUV struck him while turning northbound onto North Broadway, the San Diego Medical Examiner reports. It appears that the motorist may have failed to yield the right-of-way to the pedestrian.
Witnesses called 911 and police and paramedics responded, but found the victim unresponsive at the scene.
Miguel Garcia Gonzalez was transported by ambulance to the Palomar Medical Center’s Emergency Department where he died at 6:35 a.m. shortly after his arrival.
Investigators from the Escondido Police Department are working to determine fault for the pedestrian accident.
