Miguel Hernandez, 33, ID’d as Suspect in Madera County Fatal DUI Crash
MADERA COUNTY, CA (February 10, 2022) – Authorities detained Miguel Hernandez after a fatal DUI crash in Madera County.
The California Highway Patrol determined that the 33-year-old man was under the influence of drugs when the collision took place on Wednesday.
The incident began when Miguel Hernandez was driving a Chrysler 300 north on Road 27 in Madera County. At the same time, a black Nissan Rogue was going south.
CHP said Miguel Hernandez then made an abrupt left turn onto westbound Avenue 17. The Nissan veered to avoid collision but in the process, spun out of control.

The Rogue then crashed head-on into a Ford F-350 pickup truck pulling a trailer north on Road 27. The Fresno Bee and ABC 30 News wrote that the accident happened on February 9 at about 6:15 p.m.
The driver of the Nissan, 49-year-old Madera County resident Patricia Vargas, died at the scene. Her two passengers sustained major injuries as a result of the collision.
An air ambulance took one of them, a man, to the Community Regional Medical Center for treatment. A ground ambulance rushed the other victim, a 12-year-old girl, to the Valley Children’s Healthcare.
Meanwhile, officers arrested Miguel Hernandez on suspicion of DUI with three priors following the crash. They soon booked him into jail on multiple charges, including murder.
The Madera County DUI crash is still under investigation.
