Motorcyclist Killed in Crash Near Farmington
SAN JOAQUIN COUNTY, Calif. (June 30, 2022) — Mike Vargas Sr., 58, of Modesto, died in a collision Sunday afternoon an alleged DUI driver struck his motorcycle in an accident just south of Farmington.
The two-vehicle collision occurred about 3 p.m. on on Escalon-Bellota Road, north of Gawne Road in San Joaquin County, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Mike Vargas Sr. was riding his motorcycle south on Escalon-Bellota Road when a northbound Tesla reportedly swerved into his lane. Both vehicles collided head-on and the motorcyclist was thrown into the roadway where he died at the scene.
The San Joaquin County Medical Examiner’s Office did not release the victim’s identity, but his loved ones created a GoFundMe page to raise money for funeral expenses.
Police reportedly suspect drugs and alcohol are factors in the crash. Authorities booked the 35-year-old San Francisco man driving the Tesla into jail after being treated for minor injuries.
The Stockton CHP station is heading up the investigation into the motorcycle accident that killed Mike Vargas Sr.
