SAN DIEGO (November 26, 2017)- According to the San Diego Coroner, Mike Wilson, 65, of San Diego, has been identified as the victim fatally injured in a motorcycle accident which occurred Sunday at 3700 Ingraham Street.

Per the coroner, the collision took place at 9:22 p.m. and involved Wilson who was riding a motorcycle versus the driver of a van.

Mike Wilson Motorcycle Crash San Diego

San Diego police report that Wilson had been headed northbound on Ingraham Street before a southbound van attempted to make a turn into a small parking lot directly in front of Wilson. The 65-year-old man was unable to avoid a crash and struck the van’s passenger side front fender.

Wilson suffered major injuries despite wearing a helmet and was rushed to Scripps Memorial Hospital located in La Jolla. It was there where Wilson sadly succumbed to his injuries at 11:12 p.m. precisely.

No details or information has been disclosed regarding the van driver who apparently was uninjured but did remain at the scene and was cooperative with authorities.

At this time, it remains unclear whether drugs or alcohol were a factor while the San Diego Police Department handles the investigation.

A forensic examination of each of the vehicles involved, as well as photos that were taken of the scene, will help investigators determine which party ultimately caused the accident. Authorities will thoroughly look into how fast each driver was going, whether or not alcohol or drugs were involved, whether or not there were any mechanical issues with either vehicle. The investigation will also consist of looking at measurements of evidence left by the vehicles such as point of impact, final resting positions of each vehicle, skid marks, and gouge marks.

In such cases where negligence or wrongdoing may have been a factor, the family members of the victim, Mike Wilson, will likely be subject to a wrongful death lawsuit against the driver of the van pending how the investigation turns out as it appears the van driver was the ultimate trigger of the collision. The next-of-kin of Mr. Wilson will be entitled to seek compensation for damages including medical expenses, funeral costs, lost future income, pain and suffering, and loss of love and companionship.
