Mike Zareski and Robert Sterling Killed in Plane Crash; Dawn Sterling and Pilot Injured
SAN DIEGO (December 13, 2017) – Two were killed and two others were injured after a plane crashed in the Clairemont neighborhood Saturday, December 9, according to NBC San Diego and San Diego Union-Tribune.
The deceased victims have been identified as Dr. Mike Zareski and Robert Sterling. The wounded parties include the pilot and Dawn Sterling.
As per the reports, all four were aboard a single-engine Beech B36 Bonanza plane which took off from Montgomery Field at about 4:30 p.m.
The pilot then reported an engine failure and the six-seat plane ultimately crash-landed in a baseball field next to Lafayette Elementary School. The plane skidded into a home and became engulfed in flames.
According to an initial investigation, the pilot apparently attempted to land in the open space of the schoolyard and adjacent park. However the plane struck the ground upright, continued 100 to 200 yards and plowed through at least one fence before hitting the house.
Meanwhile, Zareski and the Stellings were in San Diego for a veterinary convention. The plane was owned by Altitude Aviation Inc. in Hermosa Beach, California.
We offer our prayers and most heartfelt condolences to the families and friends of the deceased victims during such a difficult time. We also extend our thoughts to those injured and wish them a swift and full recovery.
