Mikio Garcia, 22, ID’d as Suspect in Fresno DUI Crash at Maple and Clinton
FRESNO, CA (December 13, 2022) – Authorities detained Mikio Garcia after a DUI crash at Maple and Clinton avenues in Fresno.
The California Highway Patrol determined that the 22-year-old Fresno man was under the influence of alcohol when the wreck occurred on Tuesday.
The incident began when Mikio Joseph Garcia was driving a Dodge Grand Caravan at a high rate of speed west on Clinton Avenue in Fresno. At the same time, a Honda Civic was going north on Maple Avenue.
CHP said Mikio Garcia then ran a red light at the intersection. In the process, he slammed into the Honda making a turn west on Clinton at a green light.
The Honda ended up pushed back around 200 feet upon impact wile the Dodge continued south. The Caravan plowed into a steel fence and an apartment complex and then caught fire.
Man, 58, Seriously Injured in Wreck
The Fresno Bee and Your Central Valley wrote that the accident took place at around 12:40 a.m. Bystanders stopped Mikio Garcia who tried to leave the scene following the crash.
Paramedics transported him to the Community Regional Medical Center with unknown injuries. The driver of the Civic, a 58-year-old Fresno man, sustained major injuries as a result of the wreck.
Medical personnel rushed him to the CRMC for treatment. The reports did not disclose the name of the wounded victim and his condition at this time.
CHP soon arrested Mikio Garcia on suspicion of a felony DUI causing injuries. They booked him into the Fresno County Jail.
Officers forced the area of Maple and Clinton avenues to shut down for a time after the incident. The Fresno DUI crash is still under investigation.
