Pedestrian Killed in Mira Mesa Crash at Polaris Drive and Capricorn Way
SAN DIEGO, CA (November 11, 2022) – A crash killed a pedestrian at Polaris Drive and Capricorn Way in Mira Mesa.
According to The San Diego Union-Tribune and NBC San Diego, the tragic accident took place on Friday morning. Officers reported the collision at about 7:30 a.m.
The incident happened when a 74-year-old man was walking northbound on Polaris Drive at the intersection of Capricorn Way. At the same time, a Toyota Tacoma was going east on Capricorn.
The 59-year-old man driving the Toyota stopped at a stop sign but failed to see the victim due to the glare of the morning sun.

San Diego police said the Tacoma then struck the pedestrian in the residential Mira Mesa neighborhood. He ended up dragged underneath the car as a result of the collision.
Firefighters along with the paramedics arrived and pronounced the man dead at the scene. His name has not been yet released pending notification of next of kin.
Meanwhile, police added that the driver of the pickup truck stopped and stayed at the site following the accident. Officers forced the area of Polaris and Capricorn to shut down for a time after the incident.
The cause of the fatal Mira Mesa pedestrian crash is still under investigation.
