Miriam Marroquin Killed in I-5 Freeway Crash in Boyle Heights
Semi-Truck Crashes into Vehicles on Interstate 5 Freeway
LOS ANGELES, Calif. (Dec. 28, 2025) — Miriam Marroquin, 60, has been identified as the woman who died in a multi-vehicle crash involving a semi-truck on Sunday on the I-5 Freeway in Boyle Heights, authorities said.
The collision was reported on Dec. 28th at about 5:10 a.m. on southbound Interstate 5 near the 4th Street on-ramp, according to the California Highway Patrol. Investigators said a semi-truck plowed into multiple vehicles, triggering a chain-reaction crash that involved at least nine passenger vehicles. One vehicle caught fire at the scene.
Los Angeles Fire Department crews responded and requested a hard closure of the freeway as firefighters and CHP officers worked to rescue occupants and secure the scene. One person, identified as Miriam Marroquin, was pronounced dead, and roughly ten others were injured. Paramedics transported injured victims to area hospitals, including Adventist Health White Memorial, with some patients suffering moderate injuries.
A SigAlert was issued shortly after the crash and later extended an additional two hours as investigators conducted an on-scene investigation and evidence tows were requested for the damaged vehicles, including the semi-truck, which was believed to be loaded.
CHP air operations assisted with documentation of the crash scene, and all southbound lanes remained closed for several hours while crews cleared wreckage and completed the investigation. Traffic was diverted off the freeway at nearby ramps, including the 4th Street off-ramp.
The identity of the deceased was not released. The case was assigned Medical Examiner and the cause of the crash remains under investigation.
