Local California Winery Owner Killed in Collision
LIVERMORE, Calif. (July 26, 2023) — Mitchell Katz, 59, of Livermore, died Friday in a two-vehicle crash at East Avenue and Mitra Street in Livermore.
The collision occurred around 3:20 p.m. on July 21 at the intersection, according to the Livermore Police Department.
A driver in a black Subaru collided with a white GMC SUV driven by Katz, according to S.F. Gate. Authorities believe it happened while Katz was changing lanes. He suffered major injuries in the collision. Paramedics responded and rushed him to a hospital where he later died.
Meanwhile, a Westley man in his 20s was behind the wheel of the Subaru. He stopped and is cooperating with investigators. Police are working on the case to determine fault for the collision.
The Alameda County Coroner’s Bureau identified Mitchell Katz as the man who died. He was the owner of Mitchell Katz Winery in Livermore.
