As per the report, 24-year-old Adam Austin was driving a Toyota sedan on the northbound of the highway. Then suddenly, the car began weaving before driving off an embankment and ended up slamming a tree.
The crash resulted in the front-seat passenger, a 19-year-old Modesto woman, suffering in fatal injuries. She was pronounced deceased at the scene by responding medics.
Another party found at the crash site was 21-year-old Michael Kelsay. Kelsay survived the accident and is recovering from major injuries at Doctors Medical Center.
Officers mentioned that driver Austin was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs and was booked at the Stanislaus County jail.
Further investigation is underway.
