Girl, Grandmother Injured in Modesto Pedestrian Crash on Orangeburg Avenue
MODESTO, CA (September 13, 2021) – A child and her grandmother were injured after a pedestrian crash on Orangeburg Avenue in Modesto.
The Modesto Bee and FOX 40 News wrote that the accident took place on Monday morning. Officers reported the collision at about 8 a.m.
The incident happened when an 8-year-old girl was walking north across West Orangeburg Avenue with her grandmother and her brother. At the same time, a sedan was going east.
Modesto police said for an unknown reason, the car struck the child pedestrian and the 54-year-old woman. The driver, 21-year-old Modesto resident Abdul Malik Hamida, hit them in a crosswalk.
Victims Hit by Car in Crosswalk
Firefighters along with the paramedics soon arrived at the scene near the Garrison Elementary School. They found the girl who sustained serious injuries as a result of the collision.
A helicopter took her to the Valley Children’s Hospital in Madera and listed her in critical condition. Medical personnel rushed the grandmother to a hospital for treatment of moderate injuries.
The reports added that the 7-year-old brother of the girl ended up unharmed. Officials did not release the names of the two wounded patients.
Meanwhile, police affirmed that the Abdul Malik Hamida stopped after hitting the victims. He stayed at the site and soon cooperated with the police.
Officers forced a stretch of Orangeburg Avenue to shut down for a time after the collision. The cause of the pedestrian crash is still under investigation.
