Pedestrian Dies After Modesto Hit-and-Run Collision at 8th and L Streets
MODESTO, CA (September 1, 2020) – A pedestrian seriously injured after an alleged hit-and-run collision in the area of 8th and L streets Tuesday night has died.
According to an article published by Central Valley TV, officers received a call about the accident at around 8:45 p.m. It happened near Highway 99.
The incident began when a male pedestrian was crossing the intersection of 8th and L streets in an unmarked crosswalk.
A vehicle headed westbound on the inside lane yielded to the pedestrian. However, another car traveling behind the stopped vehicle then veered around.

Police said that car, described as smaller sized dark colored pickup truck, drove back into the inside lane and ultimately struck the victim.
The impact caused the pedestrian to be thrown toward the curb on L Street. Paramedics responded to the scene and found him left lying on the ground as a result of the crash.
Medical personnel immediately transported the patient to a hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries. His name has not been yet released pending notification of next of kin.
Meanwhile, the driver of the pickup truck did not stop to render aid to the victim and continued west on L Street. Police affirmed that the motorist was last seen allegedly turning north on 7th Street.
Authorities described the suspect car as a dark green Chevy S-10 or GMC Jimmy, between 1994 and 2004 models with a tinted black back window.
The truck reportedly has a diamond plate style toolbox in the bed and possibly has significant front-end damage. The tragic collision remains under investigation.
