Moises Chequete, 15, Killed Pedestrian Hit-and-run Santa Fe Avenue Hesperia
HESPERIA, California (June 16, 2017) — Moises Chequete, 15, of Hesperia died Thursday of injuries he suffered when he was struck by a hit-and-run driver on Santa Fe Avenue, according to the San Bernardino County Sheriff Coroner.
The fatal crash took place about 11:35 a.m., just north of Mission Street. The report stated that Chequete was struck from behind by the vehicle as he was walking northbound in a designated bicycle path. Paramedics rushed to help the teen and took him by ambulance to Desert Valley Hospital, but sadly he died of his injuries in the emergency room, the report said.
The Victor Valley News reported the driver who struck the teenager, fled the scene of the crash without stopping to help him. They later located the vehicle, a 1992 Chevrolet Corsica, at C Avenue and Yucca Street as well as a suspect they believe was driving it. The suspect has been detained and is being questioned by police.
The Hesperia Sheriff’s Station is heading up the investigation into the tragedy.

Pedestrian Hit-and-run Collisions
There is no worse tragedy than losing a loved one in a hit-and-run collision. Not only is a family dealing with the loss of the loved one, but also the anger and sadness associated with the fact that someone could be so callous as to drive off and leave their relative alone without calling for help.
While there is no way to undo what has been done, there are legal remedies available to surviving family members in cases such as this one. For example, criminal charges such as felony hit-and-run may be brought against the driver as well as a separate civil lawsuit. The civil lawsuit can help a family obtain financial compensation. This is helpful to grieving families as they will likely take time off work during this difficult time and there will be other expenses such as funeral costs and medical bills.
