Good Samaritan Monica Cantu, 55, Killed in Paso Robles Crash on Highway 101
PASO ROBLES (July 15, 2019) – A woman was killed after helping a motorist injured in an alleged wrong-way crash along Highway 101 Monday morning.
The victim, 55-year-old Paso Robles resident Monica Cantu, was one of the two Good Samaritans who were involved in the tragic accident which occurred near Spring Street.
California Highway Patrol said a man was driving the wrong-way on northbound Highway 101 when it struck another car just before 2 a.m.
According to reports by The Tribune and KSBY, Cantu and another driver pulled over on the right-hand shoulder and ran into the median to help the operator of the other vehicle.

At the same time, a Ford transit van hit debris that was in the lane from the initial collision. The van then spun out of control and hit the two Good Samaritans.
Both were immediately taken to nearby hospitals where Cantu later died. The other victim suffered major injuries as a result of the incident.
The motorist hit by the wrong-way driver was also hospitalized with moderate injuries. Meanwhile, CHP affirmed that the person who caused the incident did not stop and fled the scene.
Officials identified the suspect as 40-year-old Pedro Alvarado-Torres, of King City. He has not been yet located. Anyone with information is urged to contact CHP at 805-434-1822.
