Major Injury Collision Involving Bicyclist, SUV
MONTEREY, Calif. (Nov. 15, 2024) — A major injury bicycle accident happened Thursday night at Highway 68 and State Route 1 in Monterey.
The traffic accident occurred on the southbound SR-1 on-ramp from SR-68 around 5:47 p.m. on Nov. 14th, according to the California Highway Patrol.
CHP dispatch operators received a 911 call reporting a vehicle versus bike accident. The victim was down in the roadway and debris was scattered around them.
Paramedics responded and located the injured cyclist who was transported to a hospital due to major lacerations to the head and back.
The Toyota Highlander SUV stopped and had major front-end damage from the collision. A tow truck removed the damaged vehicle from the scene and all lanes reopened to traffic by 7:27 p.m.
Investigators are working to determine fault for the bicycle accident on Highway 68 in Monterey.
