Pest Control Truck, Pickup Crash Highway 299 Montgomery Creek
SHASTA COUNTY, Calif. (August 30, 2018) — At least one person was killed Thursday morning on Highway 299 when a pest control pickup truck and another pickup crashed head-on in Montgomery Creek, according to a California Highway Patrol report.
The crash was reported about 10 a.m. just south west of Fenders Ferry Road in front of the Halcumb Cemetery. The drivers of a silver pickup and a green and white pickup truck were involved. One person was struck inside a vehicle that overturned onto its side. A helicopter was scheduled to land nearby to transport a seriously injured person to a trauma center. It’s unknown if that was the person who died or if it was a different person.
It’s unknown at this time how many people were in the two vehicles. The roadway was closed due to the two vehicles blocking lanes, but later reopened by 11:33 a.m.
The crash remains under investigation to determine fault.
Shasta County Crash Investigation
A full investigation into what caused this collision is underway. This is a narrow, two-lane highway and the crash took place in an area where passing is permitted on both sides of the roadway. Police will piece together evidence and speak with witnesses to determine fault. There are certainly many unanswered questions such as whether or not speed was a factor, distractions or a dangerous road condition.
We extend our condolences to the family of the person who died as well as our heartfelt prayers to anyone hurt in this collision.
There are many steps that should be taken following a collision, but if you were injured the first step should be to obtain medical help. A surviving family member may have grounds for a wrongful death claim, however, a police report will be necessary to file an insurance claim.
