Phillip Jones Arrested on Hit-and-run Charges
MORENO VALLEY, Calif. (Nov. 28, 2018) – Amber Alvarez, 36, of Moreno Valley, was struck and killed in a hit-and-run collision Monday night on Old 215 Frontage Road.
Police later arrested the suspected hit-and-run driver who has been identified as 53-year-old Phillip Jones, of Moreno Valley, according to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.
The collision took place just south of Cottonwood Avenue on Nov. 26th.
The Riverside County Sheriff’s Department said Alvarez died of her injuries at the scene. Police closed down Old 215 Frontage Road between Bay Avenue and Dracaea Avenue to investigate.
They were able to gather evidence at the scene that led to the arrest of Mr. Jones. He was subsequently booked into the Robert Presley Detention Center. He is expected to appear at the Riverside Hall of Justice on Thursday morning on charges of suspicion of hit and run with serious injuries or death.
Police are heading up an investigation into the cause of this crash. In order to determine who is at fault, they will examine the evidence at the scene, take measurements and speak to witnesses as well as those involved. Criminal charges have already been filed against this driver, but the family of Amber Alvarez may also consider filing a wrongful death lawsuit.
