Moreno Valley Fatal Wrong-Way Crash 60 Freeway Gilman Springs Road

2 Killed, 1 Badly Injured in Moreno Valley Wrong-Way Crash on 60 Freeway

MORENO VALLEY, CA (April 23, 2022) – A wrong-way crash killed two people and badly injured another on the 60 Freeway near Moreno Valley.

According to The Daily Bulletin and ABC 7 News, the fatal accident took place early Saturday. Officers reported the wreck at about 3:37 a.m. near Jack Rabbit Trail.

The incident began when a Hyundai Sonata was going east in the westbound lanes of the 60 Freeway near Moreno Valley. The car was traveling at about 90 mph at the time.

The California Highway Patrol said the Hyundai then slammed head-on into a Chevrolet Malibu. The two crashed in the Badlands area, just east of Gilman Springs Road.

Speeding Driver Hits Another Car

Both the wrong-way driver and the 49-year-old Pasadena man driving the Chevrolet died at the scene. A passenger in the Malibu, a 40-year-old Pico Rivera man, sustained moderate injuries as a result of the collision.

Paramedics soon took the patient to a hospital for treatment. The names of the deceased and wounded parties have not been yet released.

Meanwhile, CHP forced the westbound side of the 60 Freeway to shut down for several hours following the wreck. The Moreno Valley wrong-way crash is still under investigation.
