MORENO VALLEY, California (April 4, 2017) – A woman was seriously injured in a wrong-way, alleged DUI crash on the 60 Freeway early Saturday April 1, according to The Press Enterprise. (map)
The accident involving two vehicles was reported about 12:30 a.m., about 2.5 miles east of Gilman Springs Road.
As per the article, California Highway Patrol said 30-year-old William Daniel Bonachea was driving a 2008 Ford Mustang west in the eastbound lanes when he collided head-on with a 2006 Nissan Sentra.
The Nissan then overturned upon impact. Its driver, 42-year-old Los Angeles resident Maria Rodriguez, was taken to the hospital with broken bones in her legs and face lacerations.
Her passenger 21-year-old Martha Lopez, was not hospitalized.
Meanwhile, the Moreno Valley wrong-way driver was found fleeing on foot after his Mustang gave out. He was detained and later determined to have marijuana in his system at the time.
Bonachea was arrested on suspicion of hit-and-run causing injury, driving under the influence of drugs causing bodily injury and possession of a controlled substance and booked into the Larry D. Smith Correctional Facility with a bail set at $75,000.
