Woman, Children, 11 and 4, Injured in Crash on First Street
FRESNO, Calif. (Sept. 7, 2023) — A woman in her 30s and two children were injured in a pedestrian accident Thursday morning on First Street between Princeton and Simpson Avenues in Central Fresno.
The crash occurred around 7:30 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 7th near Birney Elementary School, according to the Fresno Police Department.
A 70-year-old woman driving a red Volkswagen Beetle was traveling eastbound on Princeton Avenue, according to Fox 26 News. She reportedly turned onto First Street and hit the mother and two of her four children in the crosswalk, the report said.
Paramedics responded and transported a 4-year-old and an 11-year-old girl with their mother to a hospital for treatment of injuries. The vehicle dragged the older child down the street. The mother was treated for a lower left leg injury and the younger child had complaints of pain. One of the victims hit the car’s windshield and smashed it in.
The woman stopped after the crash and cooperated with the investigation. However, witnesses told authorities the driver allegedly drove through a red light and caused the crash.
Investigators continue to piece together what happened to determine who is at fault.
