Motorcycle Accident on I-880 Freeway, Near I-238 in San Leandro

Motorcyclist Injured in Collision on I-880 Southbound in San Leandro
SAN LEANDRO, Calif., April 28, 2025 — A motorcycle rider was injured Monday morning in an accident involving a white van in San Leandro on southbound Interstate 880 Freeway just north of the I-238 interchange, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP).
The crash was reported at around 8:22 a.m. on April 28th, prompting an emergency response from local fire crews and medical personnel. Initial reports indicated that the motorcyclist was lying in lane one of the freeway while the motorcycle itself was located in a different lane. A passing motorist stopped to assist before first responders arrived on scene.
Authorities said the male rider was conscious following the collision, but suffered major injuries in the collision. Emergency medical teams responded to the scene and transported the rider to a nearby hospital for further treatment.
The accident blocked lanes one and two for a period, causing significant traffic delays during the busy morning commute. A blue BMW was also reported to have stopped behind the crash site to help direct traffic until authorities could secure the area.
CHP officers and fire crews worked to clear the scene, and all vehicles involved were moved to the side of the roadway to allow traffic to flow more smoothly. Drivers were advised to use caution and expect residual delays in the area.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation. It is unclear whether speed, distracted driving, or other factors contributed to the incident.
Motorists are reminded to always remain alert and maintain safe distances from motorcycles and other vehicles, especially during peak traffic hours.
Anyone who witnessed the crash or has additional information is encouraged to contact the CHP’s Castro Valley office.
