Motorcycle Crash on I-80 Freeway, at Powell Street in Oakland
OAKLAND, Calif. (Sept. 16, 2026) — A motorcycle rider was injured Wednesday morning after a crash with an SUV in Oakland on westbound Interstate 80 at the Powell Street on-ramp, causing a temporary lane blockage and prompting a response from emergency crews.
The two-vehicle crash was reported at approximately 8:32 a.m. Sept. 16, 2026, near the San Francisco Oakland Bay Bridge, according to California Highway Patrol.
Initial reports indicated a blue sedan was involved in a collision with a motorcycle. The motorcycle rider was reported down in Lane 1, while the motorcycle came to rest in the roadway.
A witness reportedly described a blue SUV stopped in the center divider area of westbound I-80 near the Highway 580 maze.
The collision blocked Lanes 1 and 2, with a motorcycle rider standing in Lane 1 as emergency personnel responded. Oakland Fire was requested to the scene.
By approximately 8:46 a.m., CHP reported the motorcycle was blocking the HOV lanes, and a fire unit was at the scene shortly afterward.
CHP later reported that all lanes were open and the motorcycle had been moved to the right-hand shoulder. A tow truck was requested for the motorcycle at approximately 8:55 a.m.
The CHP incident was closed at approximately 8:58 a.m.
