Major Injury Motorcycle Accident on Highway 178

KERN COUNTY, Calif., (May 4, 2026) — A serious traffic collision involving a Ford truck and a motorcyclist resulted in major injuries on State Route 178 near North Mahan Street on Sunday afternoon in Ridgecrest.

The incident was reported on May 3rd at approximately 1:20 p.m. when the Ford truck reportedly collided with the motorcyclist, causing both eastbound lanes of Highway 178 to be blocked. Emergency personnel, including the Kern County Sheriff’s Office and the California Highway Patrol (CHP), responded quickly to the scene. The motorcyclist sustained possible head trauma and was tended to by emergency responders who arrived shortly after the collision.

The injured party, whose identity has not yet been released, was wearing a helmet at the time of the incident, according to open line communications overheard by emergency dispatch. The extent of the injuries sustained by the motorcyclist has been categorized as major, and they were transported to a local hospital for further medical evaluation and treatment.

Authorities have since cleared the scene, and both vehicles have been towed. The Ford truck reportedly sustained moderate front-end damage.
